Words for Today
Noise Abatement
by Mary Joan Meagher
I need a quiet spot
Between the babies and the bears
Between the phones and the flares
of disasters.
I need a quiet time
Between the chaos and demands
Between the rush and commands
of task masters.
I need a quiet place
Between the phoebes and petunias
Between the bluebirds and begonias
In the field.
Then I will dream
of loving faces, passionate nights;
Ill read a book or write a friend,
And be healed.
